Muff Whiskey is a 5 part blend of Irish Malt and Grain Whiskey’s, each one bringing an individual element. These combine to give multiple layers of flavour on the nose, middle-palate and end of the tasting experience.
1. Irish triple distilled grain whiskey in a virgin cask will get a very dark colour from the heavy char toasting and give a sweet vanilla note.
2. Irish triple distilled grain whiskey matured in ex- -American bourbon casks, adds a light and sweet note to the mix.
3. Sherry matured triple distilled malt whiskey which gives body to the drink.
4. Double distilled Irish malt whiskey which provides a fruity-ester presence.
5. Peated triple distilled malt whiskey is again matured in ex-American bourbon casks and brings a smoky flavour and long rounded finish.

Real, serious liquors from a real, serious place.
For one thing, we’re the only ones called The Muff Liquor Company. We also have real roots that began in 20th century Ireland. This is not an invented story. It is a true story of invention. And where our potatoes grow, the grass really is greener. It all began on lush, bountiful soil in the fields around Inishowen, Donegal.
The Birth of Muff
Philip McClenaghan was a potato farmer with greater ambitions for his starchy vegetables. He had what his mother called “a little bit of divilment” that was only further fueled by the legend of the Irish rebel poitín makers (it’s a fascinating story if you’re thirsty for more – watch HERE]
Inspired by these devil-may-care moonshiners, Philip began experimenting with his potatoes, inventing his own distillation process and incredible poitín recipes upon which our gin and vodka are based.
As he worked to perfect his recipes, he doled it out to family and friends. From the very start, it was meant for sharing. Now doesn’t that make you feel warm and fuzzy? Everyone loved it and the desire for his spirit spread. This is where it all began and what inspired our founder and CEO Laura Bonner to start The Muff Liquor Company to honor her grandad and the quality spirits he made.
Meet Laura
The Muff Liquor Company may have humble beginnings, but continues to seduce more than just friends and family. Philip’s granddaughter Laura keeps the legend from running dry, with recipes inspired by his original creation. Still made in Ireland with a drop of ‘divilment’, the spirit is as irresistible as ever.
Like we said, we’re serious about spirits.
Rooted in Tradition
Muff Gin and Muff Vodka begin with a premium potato-based spirit - smooth, neutral, and just as it should be. From there, the base is carefully added to a pot still, where the distillation process begins.
Fermented with Care
A pot still is like a kettle with a little extra cheek - heating and cooling our secret recipe through the art of distillation.
This is where the Muff magic takes place!
Tastes to Perfection
Muff Liquor is anything but ordinary - it has a distinct taste all its own. Once cooled to room temperature, we add our botanicals -mandarin, elderflower, grapefruit peel, juniper, and rosemary - which steep overnight in a cold infusion for a touch of mischief in every sip.
From Still to Spirit
The next day, we fire up our pot still…and the process kicks off again for both Muff Vodka and Muff Gin! Distilled 6 times for smoothness. Just before bottling, we add a splash of Champagne extract to the gin, giving it that extra sparkle we know you love.
What makes it EVEN better? Muff Gin & Vodka are gluten free and vegan friendly. No one should be left out of the fun!
This incredibly smooth peated Irish whiskey has a vibrant mix of orange peel, cinder toffee, banana chips, and ripe nectarines and peat on the nose. A warming blend of cinnamon, oak, caramelised nuts, and crisp green apples on the palate. Followed by a finish of smooth vanilla pod and coconut ice round off the sophisticated profile.
