Founded by husband and wife Pete and Vienna Barger in 2013 in North Carolina, Southern Distilling Company embraces the spirit of America’s innovative craft industry while reigniting the forgotten history of Statesville’s late 1800s reputation as the “liquor capital of the world.”
The Southern Star family of spirits is a collection of intentional, artisanal products, including Southern Star Paragon Wheated Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Southern Star Double Rye Whiskey and Southern Star Double Shot, among others. Southern Star products are available in 20 states, with rapidly expanding national and global distribution.
Today, Southern Distilling Company’s facility and grounds are 20 acres of historic agricultural farmland. You can’t miss the 30,000 square foot modern, two-story glass-fronted distillery from nearby Interstate 77.

Distilling history is coming to life at Southern Distilling Company in Statesville, North Carolina.
Husband and wife team Pete and Vienna Barger grew up inspired by multi-generational family business ownership, and in 2013, they founded Southern Distilling Company. They created an award-winning bourbon distillery that celebrates history and high quality spirits.
Together, they are diligently building a company that produces world-class bourbon and rye whiskey while highlighting the rich spirits history of North Carolina. The destination distillery offers tours, tastings, and craft cocktails seven days a week. A new event space will open in 2023 offering a variety of custom events in a well-appointed barn with an outdoor patio adjacent to the donkey pasture.

SOUTHERN STAR SOUR
INGREDIENTS
2 oz Southern Star Double Rye Whiskey
1 oz simple syrup
1 oz lemon juice
Cherry, lemon, or orange wedge for garnish
HOW TO MAKE IT
Add whiskey, simple syrup, and lemon juice to shaker with ice.
Shake until well chilled.
Pour into glass with ice and garnish.
*Alternate serving suggestion: Slowly pour .5 oz of dry red wine, such as a cabernet, over an upside down spoon placed close to the surface of your Whiskey Sour. It will form a floating red layer.
