Made from Juniper, Bergamot, Coriander, Cardamom, Nigerian Ginger, and Sicilian Lemon. It's a small run of fewer than 1,000 bottles at a time. In 2017 Ogden's Own began making Madam Pattirini Gin influenced by one of the more interesting and unknown figures of the West. Utah's full of surprises and has always been a pretty wile place!
ABV 44% (Proof 88)
Born the son of LDS prophet Brigham Young and one of his wives, Margaret Pierce, Morris Young served a mission for the LDS Church in the Hawaiian Islands in 1875. Shortly after returning from this mission he was asked by his father to organize the YMMIA along with Junius F. Wells and Milton H. Hardy.
In 1883 Young served another mission in the Hawaiian Islands. He married Armeda Snow, a daughter of Lorenzo Snow. Their son Lorenzo Snow Young was a prominent architect in Utah.
In 1885 Young, his wife and their children returned from serving his second mission in the Hawaiian Islands. Shortly after returning to Utah, Young bgan publicly performing as a cross-dressing singer under the pseudonym Madam Pattirini. Young performed as Pattirini in the north and central Utah venues from 1885 to the 1900s. He could produce a convincing falsetto, and many in the audience did not realize that Pattirini was Young.
Ogden's Own Distillery bottled the first batch of Madam Pattirini Gin on B. Morris Young 163rd birthday. Cheers to singing your own song.
From the late 1800's to the mid 1900's setting foot off of the train in Ogden was often a life changing experience for a transcontinental rail traveler. The train station sat as the root of the infamous Two-bit Street. "Any man's desire fulfilled for two bits." Two-bit/25th Street was a hedonist's paradise. With no trouble from the law, a man could gamble, drink bootleg liquor, spend time with an unfamiliar lady, smoke opium, or befall a worse fate.
