The inspiration for our brand, a granddaughter of Luis Quinteros, an original settler of Los Angeles, in 1838 Maria Rita Valdez was granted 4,539 acres of land that became her home and the cattle ranch named Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas, which translates to “Ranch of the Gathering Waters.” In the 20th Century, Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas was developed into what is now known as Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.
The Shared Passion of Our Founders
Rodeo de las Aguas founders Jefrey Levy and Tony Garcia became friends as members of Los Angeles and New York based wine tasting groups dedicated to the world’s finest wines. Over two decades, Jef and Tony blind-tasted and analyzed thousands of wines, refining their skills to identify the delicate nuances and unique characteristics of individual wines. They were introduced to the French term “terroir” or “a sense of place” the factors, including soil, climate, and sunlight, that give wine grapes their distinctive character. Each wine region, and each vineyard, features a variety of different soils and landscapes. Each vineyard holds a unique terroir that may vary significantly with other vineyards nearby, the essence of what provides wines with their characteristic aromas and flavors.
After years of analyzing and collecting fine wines, Jef and Tony began to sample and collect the world’s finest spirits, including tequila. They soon realized that terroir also played an essential role in the cultivation of agave plants and the production of tequila. As with vineyards, the terroir of agave fields in the Southern Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico provides each tequila with a unique character. Understanding the nature of terroir, they formed a relationship with a traditional tequila distillery with agave fields in various areas of Jalisco. Working with their master tequilero, they developed truly unique tequilas based on the terroir of the chosen agave fields. The results are Rodeo de las Aguas, authentic tequilas, additive-free, driven by purity, complexity, and exceptional finishes.
