100 Proof (ABV 50%)
Some of our Bourbon whiskey has passed the four-year period maturing in a virgin American oak barrel and as such can now be bottled in bond. In addition to being matured for a minimum of four years, this whiskey is bottled at 50% abv, (100 proof), resulting in a stronger and richer spirit. With a higher than typical percentage of malt barley in our bourbon, it has a more malty and less sweet character.
When you walk into our distillery, or try one of our spirits, we want you to be impressed. We believe in what we produce, and are proud of what goes into the making of each spirit. These spirits are personal to us. This is craft distilling - not mass production. This is true craftsmanship. The art of craft distilling is not a skill one acquires overnight, and there are no shortcuts to hard earned, hands-on experience. Vapor Distillery, formerly Roundhouse Spirits, became the first legal Distillery in Bolder County, Colorado in 2007. Each and every small, handcrafted batch of award winning spirits produced in our Boulder Colorado distillery is made by hand. We first start with pure, local, Colorado Rocky Mountain water sourced from the Arapaho Glacier, then add the finest hand selected botanicals and ingredients specifically chosen for their high quality and taste. In an unassuming garage, with just a simple 3-gallon pot still, Ted Palmer, our Master Distiller, began producing what is now our award winning Boulder Gin. In fact that very same still can be seen in the backroom of our distillery. And while we have grown, that little pot still serves to remind us of our very humble beginnings.
The Distilling experience served Ted well during his Navy tour as a mine field navigator, where he became “The man to go to for a drink”. He made ship-board Bilge Wine, and needless to say a whole lot of friends in the process.
After leaving the Navy, Ted took a brewing job in Washington, and worked his way up quickly, learning a lot along the way about brewing, making beer, and developing a reputation for his damn fine palate for beer and Spirit tasting. His knowledge of the processes of distilling and brewing led to his being sought out for advice on start-up distilleries and breweries.
Ted began distilling with Vapor Distillery (Then Roundhouse Spirits) where he started working on new Gin recipes. Ted has always been a Gin connoisseur, but he wanted to create a new taste. - That recipe eventually became his award-winning, New Western Style Rhok Gin. After that came Ginskey – A Barrel Aged Gin that was recently given the title of “World’s Best Cask Gin” and Double Gold at the prestigious 2015 World Gin Awards in London England. Currently Ted is fine-tuning his recipes for a Navy Strength, a Genever, and a Traditional Dry Gin to add to the Vapor Distillery brand.
So many fruity flavors; banana, peach, grape and tropical fruits. A soft and creamy mouth-feel with a hint of licorice shining through the lush honey finish.
